Is your resolution to throw the best New Year celebration?
What makes the perfect New Year’s Eve party?
It’s a difficult one, isn’t it? Especially with so many people willing to say “I’m not that bothered by New Year” or “I prefer to stay in.” But New Year’s Eve can be one of the best nights of the year if you get it right.
At Simply Linens, we’ve provided table linen hire for countless New Year’s Eve dos and so we’ve picked up a few tips along the way. Here are some of our top suggestions for the best New Year ever.
Don’t forget the fizz
Whether it’s champagne, prosecco, cava or even some non-alcoholic bubbles, a glass of fizz for midnight is an essential part of any New Year’s party. This means you need to make sure there’s enough. If you’re using standard champagne flutes and you intend on being generous with the amount (it is the festive season, after all) then you want to allow for about six glasses per 750ml bottle. So, if you were having 24 people at your party (including yourself) you’ll want four bottles minimum.
Great stemware is a must
In our younger years, we’ve all been to New Year’s Eve parties where we’ve sipped sparkling wine from a random tea mug. But we’re adults now and we want proper stemware. This means hiring or buying enough wine glasses, champagne flutes and other glasses for everyone who’s attending. Of course, if you’re on a bit of a budget, you can buy beautiful plastic stemware that not only saves on breakages, but also the washing up. Either way, at least you won’t be calling your mugs into use.
Remember to count down to midnight
Sometimes, when people are having a lot of fun, midnight can sort of pass revellers by and you completely forget the all-important countdown. As host, it’s your job to get everyone together so set a reminder on your phone or something similar for about five minutes to midnight. This way you can round everyone up for the countdown, whether you’re using a clock’s second hand, or tuning into the Beeb for Jools’ Annual Hootenanny.
Don’t let things deflate at a minute past midnight
One of the biggest complaints about New Year parties is that it’s all a bit of a flop after midnight. So, once everyone has finished singing Auld Lang Syne and bringing in 2019 with hugs and kisses, make sure you keep the party going. You might want to bring out another round of fizz, turn up the music, or introduce some fun party games. Whatever you do, don’t give people a chance to deflate. Remember, you’re celebrating the New Year, not mourning the one that’s gone.
