Pantone Colour of the Year 2018
Every year, the Pantone Colour of the Year has a huge impact on design, influencing styles and trends for the next 12 months and beyond. At Simply Linens, we see this reflected in various table linen ranges and colours surging in popularity and this year will be no different.
Earlier in the year, the Pantone Color Institute announced Ultra Violet (18-3838) as its star colour for 2018 and we just know this is going to have a huge impact on people’s table linen hire choices for the year to come, as did Greenery, Rose Quartz, Serenity and Marsala before it.
About Ultra Violet
Pantone’s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, describes Ultra Violet as a blue-based purple which ‘takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way of what is yet to come.’
This pointing towards the future is perfect for celebratory events and is perhaps why purple tones have always been so popular at weddings in particular. Ultra Violet’s beautiful hues, reflective of the night sky, make it a wonderfully romantic colour that’s uniquely suited to celebrating the joining of two people for the rest of their lives.
How to use Ultra Violet
If you’re thinking of using Ultra Violet in your colour scheme for your wedding or event, you should first look at your overall colour palette. You probably don’t want a solid block of deep purple so you may want to consider coordinating it with lighter lilac and lavender tones, dusky pinks, pale blue-greys and even light olive greens.
When thinking about setting your tables using Ultra Violet, there’s a lot to think about. Do you want white table linen offsetting the purple tones, or do you want lots of colour, with Ultra Violet just one accent of many?
If the latter option, you may find Ultra Violet a bit oppressive as the main table linen choice. Instead, perhaps consider a duck egg blue tablecloth from our Georgian range as the base, with a floral centrepiece made up of shades of Ultra Violet, lilac, lavender and dusky pink. This could be accompanied by colour-coordinated favours and napkins. Alternatively, you could look at one of our many purple-toned tablecloths for hire, which we carry in a variety of shades.
You could even organise a themed cocktail such as Purple Rain or Purple Haze as a reception drink for when your guests arrive.
The team at Simply Linens has years of experience helping people organise their event linen hire so we’ve picked up a thing or two about colour palettes and what goes with what along the way. So, if you’re not sure about your colour palette, or how you might make Ultra Violet (or any other colour, for that matter) work at your event, we can help.
